Yvonne joined CYA as a trustee in 2018 following her retirement from working in the third sector with young people for 27 years. When approached about joining the team Yvonne realised this would be a way of keeping busy, maintaining a passion for helping young people and continuing to share her skills and experience. Following a career in hospitality and catering, Yvonne rose through the ranks of a National Education Charity gaining many skills, qualifications and experience. These include organisational management. human resources, teaching and training, safeguarding, project management, contract management and procurement. Yvonne also has extensive experience of partnership working and collaboration and in recent years this included CYA which also influenced her decision to become a trustee.
After a very underwhelming experience in senior school herself, Yvonne can empathise and recognise that every young person does not learn in the same way, but they all deserve the opportunity to shine in their own way. Yvonne has lived in Cockermouth for 35 years, has a son and now a grandson, a step daughter and two step grandchildren to keep her busy, her interests are walking her border collie Bob, upholstery and sewing, netball and being in Cockermouth WI.
