MK was referred by the DWP to the Forging Futures programme. Funded by the Youth Futures Foundation. Her biggest barrier was that she was a young mum with a young baby, alongside being a carer for her ill mother.

MK initially studied Adult Nursing at the University of Cumbria but realised that this was not a career path that suited her and needed support exploring different options.

Working with Rosie (key worker) to develop her confidence and core employability skills. She attended the Highway to Employability programme, alongside complementary one to one and group sessions, employer led Q&A and career pathway events hosted by CYA.

MK applied for and secured a place on the PPP skills academy to gain a greater insight into career avenues within the nuclear sector and the Sellafield supply chain. Following successful completion of the programme, she interviewed for and was offered an 18-month Internship with NG Bailey. CYA will continue to provide now received in work support for the initial 6 months of this employment.

MK said, “this is going well, and I am thoroughly enjoying my new role in a completely different career.”
