Walney Community Trust

Young people and wellbeing on Walney

The key aim of our project is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of identified youth club members through the provision of 1-1 and small group sessions.

When Covid lockdown forced our usual provision to close, our Youth team developed approaches to support the young people they work with; this comprised  individual support, both online and face-to-face; and small group support, online and face-to-face. This support was very well-received, but unable to be maintained post-pandemic, purely for financial reasons

This new initiative will enable us to provide this extra support once again, to be held in the familiar and safe environment of our own building. We will provide 3 x 1-1 and 1 small group (10-15 participants) sessions per week. The focus will be determined by the young people; craft sessions have previously been particularly fruitful, and we plan to use Decider Skills as appropriate. We will initially target Yr7/8/9 young people; the intention here being to try to tackle issues relatively early rather than once well-established.
